Smari leads London based film collective Freestyler Films. Smari directed award winning feature documentary The Home Game about an amateur football team in Iceland - winning multiple awards on the festival circuit including the MUBI Audience Award at Glasgow Film Festival and the Audience Award for Best International Documentary at Sydney Film Festival. He has directed 6 fiction short films which have travelled the world on the festival circuit. Additionally he has directed voice overs, music videos and commercials including credits for Harpa Concert Hall, Chevrolet and Trivago. As a writer Smari has been supported by the Icelandic Film Fund, picked for the BFI network short film development programme and studied scriptwriting at NFTS.

Upcoming projects include a comedy TV series for Icelandic TV as well as being in development for multiple international TV and Film projects as a writer.
